Between 1948 and 1953, the Seasiders made three FA Cup Final appearances and in the 1950s, they had four top-six finishes in the Football League First Division. Their best finish in the top tier of English football was finishing runners-up to Manchester United in the 1955/56 campaign.

The club’s top goalscorer is Jimmy Hampson, who scored 252 times between 1927 and 1938, while their longest serving manager was Joe Smith, who spent 22 years and nine months in charge from August 1935 to April 1958.
