Brentford FC History

Founded over 130 years ago in 1889, Brentford have played their home matches at Griffin Park since 1904 following a nomadic existence playing at five previous grounds. The club’s most successful period came some time ago in the 1930s, achieving three consecutive top-six finishes in the top flight. Nicknamed ‘The Bees’, Brentford has been finalists of the Football League Trophy three times and their main rivals are fellow West London clubs Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.

Brentford have also been champions of the Second Division once, Third Division twice and Fourth Division three times. The club have never won an FA or League Cup and their highest ever finish in the First Division was fifth in the 1935/36 campaign.

Ken Coole currently stands as Brentford’s longest serving player, playing 559 times for the Bees, while Jim Towers holds the record for most goals scored, netting 163 times between 1954 and 1961.

The club’s longest serving manager was Harry Curtis who managed the Bees in 707 matches, winning 306 of them. Curtis also holds the record for most points accumulated, earning 1002 points as manager between 1926 and 1949.
