Nicknamed ‘The Seagulls’, the club are situated on the south-coast and you can read all the latest Brighton & Hove Albion news here – all it takes is a few, simple clicks.
In their early years, Brighton played their football in the Southern League, but were elected to the Football League in 1920. The club’s greatest period came between 1979 and 1983; playing football in the First Division and reaching the 1983 FA Cup Final, losing out to Manchester United following a replay.
However, 15 years later and Brighton were playing their football in the fourth tier of English football, struggling with financial difficulties. The Seagulls came ever-so close to dropping out of the Football League into the Conference in 1997, but narrowly avoided relegation and a boardroom takeover saved the club from liquidation.
Things then went better for Brighton. Back-to-back promotions in 2001 and 2002 placed Brighton in the second tier; nine years later, the club moved into the Amex Stadium after 14 years without a permanent home ground. Their return to the top-flight came in the 2016/17 season, finishing second and gaining automatic promotion to the Premier League.
It is also worth mentioning the club are 14-time Sussex Senior Challenge Cup winners and they also have an FA Charity Shield to their name, beating Aston Villa 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
