Bristol City History

Founded in 1894, they have played their home games at Ashton Gate since 1904 – a stadium that holds up to 27,000 fans. Nicknamed ‘The Robins’, Bristol City had a robin feature on the club’s badge from 1976 to 1994, and recently changed their badge to have it feature again from 2019 onwards. The club have only featured in one FA Cup Final throughout their history, finishing runners-up at the 1909 final against Manchester United. Bristol City have never featured in a League Cup final, but have encountered some success in league competitions; four-time champions of the Third Tier and winners of the Second Tier on one occasion.

The Robins did come close to winning the first tier of English football back in the 1906/07 campaign, but could only finish runners-up. The club have won the Football League Trophy on three occasions, the latest being in the 2014/15 season, beating Walsall 2-0 at Wembley.

Louis Carey holds the record for most appearances, featuring 646 times for the Robins in two periods with the club. John Atyeo came ever-so close to that record, but played one less game than Carey. However, Atyeo does hold the record for most goals, netting 351 goals over a 15-year period.
