Chelsea FC History

Founded in 1905, Chelsea are now one of the richest clubs in world football under the ownership of Roman Abramovich. Since Abramovich took ownership, the Blues have won 13 major trophies including five Premier League titles, a Champions League, two Europa Leagues, four FA Cups and three League Cups – a total of 15 honours made Chelsea the second most successful English side of the decade.

The west-London outfit have never been relegated from the top-flight of English football since the Premier League was introduced back in 1992. Overall, Chelsea have won eight FA Cups, six First Division/Premier League titles, five League Cups and four FA Community Shields. Most of their success has come in recent history, again coinciding with the takeover back in 2003.

Chelsea’s first and only Champions League trophy came in dramatic fashion. Playing Bayern Munich at their home, Allianz Arena, in the final was always going to be a tricky task; an 88^th minute equaliser from Didier Drogba sent the tie all the way to penalties, and again it was Drogba who scored the decisive penalty to crown Chelsea champions for the first time in their history.
