Everton FC History

The Toffees were founded in 1878 and have been at their home, Goodison Park, since 1892. The stadium is just one mile from Anfield, who of course homes their bitter rivals Liverpool. Everton have remained in the top tier of English football since 1954 and Goodison Park has hosted more top-flight games than any other stadium in England. Despite being in the Premier League since the competition’s introduction in 1992, the Toffees have never been able to add to their nine First Division titles. However, they remain an established, competitive club in the top-flight of English football and have a rich and illustrious history.

Everton have won the FA Cup five times, the first coming in 1906 and the latest in 1995 – the 50^th FA Cup final to be played at Wembley since the second World War – defeating Manchester United 1-0 courtesy of Paul Rideout’s headed goal. The blue half of Merseyside have never won the League Cup, however, and they will be looking to change that in the future.

Completing the double in a season is never an easy task, but Everton managed it in the 1984-85 campaign. Claiming the First Division title alongside success in the European Cup Winners’ Cup remains one of the club’s most successful seasons in their history.
