Founded in 1908, Huddersfield became the first English club to win three successive English League titles in 1926, an achievement only matched by three other clubs since (Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool). The club, nicknamed ‘The Terriers’, play their home matches at the John Smith’s Stadium and have done since 1994. The ground is also the home of rugby league side Huddersfield Giants, both of who moved there from Leeds Road; and you can find all the latest Huddersfield Town news here.
Following relegation from the First Division in 1972, the club spent 45 years out of the top flight before returning in 2017, but were relegated back to the Championship two seasons later. Prior to that, the Terriers have been crowned champions of the First Division three times – all of which were consecutive – while winning the Second Division and Fourth division once in their history.
More impressively, Huddersfield do have an FA Cup trophy to their name, dating back to 1922, beating Preston North End 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. They have also been runners-up of the competition four times and their best League Cup finish was reaching the semi-finals in the 1967/68 campaign.
In 2010/11, Huddersfield went 43 games unbeaten, the second highest in league history after Arsenal’s 49-match run achieved by ‘The Invincibles’ back in 2003/04.
