The club’s first competitive football match was in the FA Cup preliminary round, drawing 3-3 with Stockton in 1904 but losing the subsequent replay 4-1. Since then, Hull have been crowned champions of the Third Division and runners-up of the Championship, winning the play-offs twice to gain promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and 2016.
The Tigers came ever-so close to lifting the FA Cup for the first time in their history back in 2014; leading Arsenal 2-0 in the first 10 minutes only to surrender the lead and eventually lose 3-2 in extra time was difficult for the fans to take. They also reached the semi-finals of the League Cup in the 2016/17 campaign, but have never won either domestic trophy as a club.
Andy Davidson holds the club record for league appearances, featuring 579 times for the Tigers. As for the top goalscorer, Chris Chilton holds that record, netting 222 times for the club. Hull’s widest margin of victory in the league came back in 1939 defeating Carlisle United 11-0 in the Third Division North.
