Founded in 1884 and nicknamed ‘The Foxes’, Leicester have created, arguably, one of the greatest moments in the history of football. Their Premier League winning campaign in 2015/16 sent a shock, not just across England, but the world – and you can find all the latest Leicester City news here.
Originally, they were named Leicester Fosse F.C, until that changed to Leicester City in 1919. They have been at the King Power Stadium – originally called Walkers Stadium – since 2002, capable of holding 32,000 fans.
When it comes to trophies, the Foxes have had their fair share of success. The club have won the League Cup three times – most recently in 1999/2000 – and also have an FA Charity Shield to their name. Leicester have featured in four FA Cup finals, only to lose all four, while they remain seven-time champions of Division Two/Championship alongside a third tier title.
But their greatest feat came in the 2015/16 Premier League campaign. After their ‘great escape’ the season prior, anyone betting on Leicester to then win the division, well, you would have called them crazy. However, against all the odds, the Foxes pulled off a miracle and achieved one of the greatest sporting shocks ever, a team that are now regarded as ‘The Unbelievables’. In that season, Jamie Vardy broke the record for goals scored in consecutive games, becoming the first player to score in 11 consecutive Premier League matches.
Throughout their history, Leicester have spent all but one season in the top two divisions of English football. Their 9-0 victory against Southampton at St Marys remains the largest away win in English top-flight history and the joint largest Premier League win of all time.
