From a small town in Bedfordshire, Luton were founded over 134 years ago back in 1885. The club play their home matches at Kenilworth – a stadium holding over 10,000 fans – and have done since 1905. They are nicknamed ‘The Hatters’ and you can find all the latest and exclusive Luton Town news here; all it takes is a few, simple clicks.
Over the club’s history, they have encountered trophy triumphs, multiple promotions and relegations and, unfortunately, several financial crises. Luton’s success was most prominent between 1982 and 1992, a period where the club was a member of the First Division while achieving a League Cup in 1988.
At the beginning, the club were the first in southern England to turn professional and started to make payments to players as early as 1890; turning professional one year later. Luton joined the Football League for the 1897/98 campaign but had to leave in 1900 due to financial difficulties, before returning 20 years later.
The Hatters have reached the final of the FA Cup once in their history, but could only finish runners-up back in 1959, losing 2-1 to Nottingham Forest. However, their 1988 League Cup Final was different, beating Arsenal to record their first major honour. The club made it to the League Cup final the following season too but failed to beat Nottingham Forest which would have made it back-to-back trophies.
On top of those honours, Luton have won the Second Division once, Third Division three times and Fourth Division once. The club also have a Football League Trophy to their name, achieved in the 2008/09 campaign.
