The club, nicknamed ‘The Boro’, were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992 and became one of the first teams to be relegated from the division the following season. Middlesbrough only have only achieved one major trophy in their history, which came recently in 2004, beating Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the League Cup Final. The club also reached the 2006 UEFA Cup Final but could not triumph on the night, losing to Spanish outfit Sevilla.
The club’s highest league finish in their history was back in the 1913/14 campaign, finishing third in the top flight. They have also won the Second Division four times and reached the 1997 FA Cup Final, losing 2-0 against Chelsea at Wembley.
George Camsell holds the record as top goalscorer, netting 345 times for Boro, while Tim Williamson tops the charts for most appearances, featuring 602 times for the club.
