Milton Keynes, as a town, was not established until 1967. There was an absence of a professional football club to represent the town. Wimbledon, established in 1889, were elected to the Football League in 1977 and went through the fairytale rise from obscurity to an established team in the top division of English Football.
Fans were originally against the relocation to Milton Keynes, and some even formed their own club, AFC Wimbledon, to which most original supporters defected. However, 2004 came around and MK Dons were formed, creating some moments of history to date.
In 2007/08, the Dons were crowned champions of League Two and subsequently were promoted to League One. After seven seasons, the club pushed into the Championship for the first time in their history after finishing runners-up in the 2014/15 campaign.
However, then came a decline and went all the way back to League Two before gaining promotion back to the third tier of English football in 2018/19. MK Dons have also won the Football League Trophy, beating Grimsby in the 2008 Final.
