Norwich City History

Founded in 1902, Norwich have 117 years of history behind them and contest a long-standing rivalry with East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town, a club they have share the East Anglian derby with 134 times. Nicknamed ‘The Canaries’, Norwich play their home matches at Carrow Road – a stadium that holds over 27,000 fans – and have done since 1935. As for honours, the club have won the Second Division/Championship four times, Third Division/League One twice and also have two League Cup trophies to their name, triumphing in 1962 and 1985.

When it comes to records, every Norwich fan will hold great respect for Kevin Keelan; holding the record for most Norwich appearances, having played 673 first-team matches between 1963 and 1980. Ralph Hunt currently holds the record for the most goals scored in a single campaign, netting 31 times throughout the 1955/1965 Division Three (South). Overall, Johnny Gavin holds the club record as top goalscorer with 122 goals between 1948 and 1955.

The Canaries’ largest margin of victory came all the way back in 1930 – a 10-2 triumph over Coventry City. Opposing that, their heaviest defeat came against Swindon Town in 1980, ironically also a 10-2 scoreline but this time they were on the wrong side.
