QPR History

Although the club’s original founding date goes back to 1882, they were founded as Queens Park Rangers in 1886 after the merger of Christchurch Rangers and St Judes Institute. Nicknamed ‘The Hoops’, QPR had several home grounds in their early years until moving into Loftus Road, their current home which seats over 18,000 fans. The club’s highest ever league finish came back in the 1975/76 campaign, finishing runners-up of the First Division and subsequently qualified for Europe for the first time in their history, reaching the quarter-finals of the 1976/77 UEFA Cup.

When it comes to honours, QPR do have a League Cup trophy to boast about after defeating West Bromwich Albion from 2-0 down to win 3-2. What was more impressive, though, was the Hoops were a Third Division side at the time, while their opponents were placed in the First Division.

As for the FA Cup, QPR have reached the final once in their existence, finishing runners-up of the 1982 FA Cup final after losing to Tottenham Hotspur.

The club’s biggest league win came back in 1960, beating Tranmere Rovers 9-2 in the Third Division. Tony Ingham currently holds the record for most appearances, featuring 519 times for QPR, while George Goddard remains their all-time top goalscorer, netting 186 times in eight years.
