Stevenage History

Founded in 1976 following the demise of their former club Stevenage Borough, they joined United Counties League in 1980 and encountered immediate success. In the early 1980s, The Boro won the United Counties League Division One and the United Counties League Cup in the club’s first year in the competition. Three promotions in four seasons followed and in 1994, Stevenage were promoted to the Conference National. Despite winning the league in 1995/96, they were denied promotion to the Football League due to insufficient ground facilities.

However, the club was finally promoted to the Football League after winning the Conference Premier in 2009/10. At that point, they dropped the ‘Borough’ from their name and became Stevenage FC. The Boro then beat Torquay United 1-0 at Old Trafford in the 2010/11 League Two play-off final and joined the third tier of English football.

In national cup competitions, Stevenage became the first team to win a competitive final at the new Wembley Stadium in 2007, beating Kidderminster Harriers 3-2 to lift the FA Trophy. The club won the competition again two years later.
