West Brom History

Founded in 1874 and nicknamed ‘The Baggies’, West Brom have played at their home ground, The Hawthorns, since 1900; an all-seater stadium with a capacity of over 26,000. The Baggies have been champions of England once back in the 1919/20 campaign, while coming close as runners-up on two different occasions. The club have featured in a staggering 10 FA Cup Finals, winning five of them in 1888, 1892, 1931, 1954 and 1968. Not only that, West Brom have been crowned champions of the other domestic cup, the League Cup, which came back in 1966 against West Ham United; finishing runners-up the following season and then again in 1970.

West Brom’s widest margin of victory in a league fixture came back in 1892, defeating Darwen 12-0. Tony Brown holds the records for most appearances, featuring 720 times for the club. Brown also tops the all-time goalscoring charts, netting 279 times for the Baggies.
